DRDO to Test Dhvani Hypersonic Missile by 2025, Exceeding BrahMos
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to conduct a pivotal flight trial of India’s indigenous hypersonic missile, Dhvani, by the end of 2025, aiming for speeds reaching Mach 6. This advancement enhances India’s strategic deterrence capabilities, particularly in response to regional threats, including China and Russia’s hypersonic systems. Dhvani’s innovative design allows it to glide unpredictably in the upper atmosphere, significantly outpacing existing systems like BrahMos, which operates at Mach 3. With a projected range of 1,500 km and over 80% indigenous content, the program underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing while strengthening its defense posture in a volatile geopolitical landscape.
