DRDO to Conduct Final Trial of SMART Anti-Submarine Missile

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to conduct the final developmental trial of the SMART (Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo) anti-submarine missile later this year, aiming for operational clearance to enhance the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities. With a range of 643 km and the ability to deploy lightweight torpedoes autonomously, SMART significantly extends India’s standoff engagement potential against hostile submarines beyond conventional limits. This hybrid system represents a strategic advancement in India’s indigenous defense arsenal, positioning the nation among a select few with such advanced capabilities and bolstering its maritime security and deterrence posture.
