DRDO Seeks Industry Input for Reusable HEAT Development to Boost IAF Training
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to the Indian industry for the design and development of a reusable High Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) to enhance the Indian Air Force’s training capabilities. This initiative, part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme, seeks innovative solutions to key challenges such as durable recovery systems and advanced guidance technologies, aiming for 60-70% indigenous content. The project responds to the increasing need for sophisticated aerial threat simulations against advanced adversaries, ultimately reducing dependence on costly foreign models and enhancing pilot proficiency and surface-to-air weapon evaluations. This move underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance and bolstering its defense ecosystem through collaboration with the private sector and academia.
