DRDO Seeks CCS Approval for $7 Billion AMCA Engine Deal with Safran

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is seeking Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approval for a $7 billion partnership with French aerospace giant Safran to co-develop a high-performance jet engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). This collaboration emphasizes India’s push for self-reliance in military aviation, allowing complete technology transfer and full ownership of intellectual property rights. The project aims to enhance India’s defense capabilities while creating a robust aerospace ecosystem. Despite past challenges with Safran, stringent timelines are expected to ensure accountability and timely execution, positioning India as a key player in global defense manufacturing.
