The DRDO has selected Astra Microwave and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) as partners to develop the indigenous Virupaksha AESA radar for the IAF’s Super-30 upgrade of its Su-30MKI fleet. This state-of-the-art radar will enhance the fighter’s capabilities against advanced threats like China’s J-20, featuring GaN technology for superior performance and a range of 300-400 km. Astra Microwave’s expertise in RF technologies and BEL’s experience in avionics integration ensure robust production and system integration, with testing set to begin in 2028. The project supports India’s vision of self-reliance in defense, fostering collaboration within the domestic defense industry while strengthening national security.
