DRDO launches second batch of 1500 HP engine for armored vehicles.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has reached a significant milestone with the rollout of the second batch of a high-performance 1500 horsepower engine prototype for Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), enhancing India’s armored mobility capabilities. This indigenous engine, designed to power future main battle tanks and infantry combat vehicles, offers improved torque, reduced thermal signatures, and compatibility with hybrid-electric systems, addressing the vulnerabilities of reliance on imported engines. The project demonstrates India’s commitment to self-reliant mechanized warfare, with rigorous testing confirming a lifespan exceeding 10,000 hours under extreme conditions. As DRDO collaborates with private firms for scaled production, this development is poised to fortify India’s defense posture amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
