DRDO Launches Advanced RF SoC-Based RWR, Enhancing Electronic Warfare in India
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has unveiled a next-generation Radio Frequency System-on-Chip (RF SoC) based Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) processing unit that marks a significant advancement in India’s electronic warfare capabilities. This compact, high-performance unit integrates analog-to-digital conversion, digital signal processing, and programmable logic on a single chip, delivering faster and more energy-efficient threat detection with superior sensitivity and dynamic range. It effectively tracks agile frequency-hopping radar signals and enhances real-time emitter analysis across airborne, naval, and land platforms, including the Tejas Mk1A and AMCA fighter jets, as well as unmanned combat systems. Complementing the existing DHRUTI RWR system, the RF SoC design reduces hardware complexity while improving range and classification accuracy against advanced radar threats and jamming techniques. This indigenous development aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by reducing dependency on imports and offering modular scalability for future upgrades, significantly boosting situational awareness and survivability in dense electromagnetic environments.
