DRDO Invites Private Sector to Develop Indigenous EMP Warhead

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India has launched a project under its Technology Development Fund (TDF) program to develop an indigenous Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) rocket warhead, aimed at enhancing India’s electronic warfare capabilities. This non-lethal weapon is designed to disable enemy electronics and communication systems, providing a strategic advantage in modern warfare without causing physical damage. The project seeks collaboration with the private sector, particularly MSMEs and startups, to foster innovation and reduce foreign dependency. The EMP warhead, compatible with existing platforms like the Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher, is crucial for countering regional threats from adversaries, particularly drone swarms, thereby reinforcing India’s defense posture and operational flexibility in diverse terrains.
