DRDO and ADA to Convert LCA Tejas into AI-Driven Testbeds

In a significant advancement for India’s aerospace capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) are working to convert older prototypes of the LCA Tejas into autonomous testbeds for next-generation AI flight systems. This initiative aims to develop a Level 5 autonomous flight control system, enabling the aircraft to operate independently in complex missions without human intervention. The unmanned platforms will be equipped with advanced sensors and secure data links to enhance operational effectiveness, marking a leap towards sixth-generation air warfare systems. While the project faces challenges, including technological complexities and funding constraints, it underscores India’s commitment to advancing its defense technologies and enhancing its competitive edge in the global aerospace landscape.
