DRDO Advances Electromagnetic Railgun Technology for Enhanced Defense Capabilities
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has made significant strides in developing electromagnetic railgun technologies, successfully testing advanced systems such as compact power sources and modular capacitor banks that achieve high-energy projectile propulsion. This year, upgrades to the railgun launcher have demonstrated a remarkable firing rate of three rounds per minute, with projectiles reaching speeds over 2,000 metres per second. The program aims to bridge the gap between conventional artillery and missile systems, enhancing India’s strategic capabilities in both naval and land warfare. With ongoing advancements in materials and power handling, DRDO’s railgun initiative positions India as a serious player in the future of high-velocity weapon systems, marking a crucial step towards modernizing its defense arsenal.
