India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has advanced its Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) program by moving to the prototyping phase of a 50kW laser system, following the success of the 30kW Sahastra Shakti. This new solid-state laser, capable of engaging larger aerial threats with precision, reflects India’s growing capabilities in high-energy laser technology. With advanced targeting systems and low operational costs, the 50kW laser aims to enhance India’s defense against evolving threats, particularly along its borders. Successful user trials could lead to rapid deployment and collaboration with the private sector for mass production, reinforcing India’s strategic defense initiatives.
