Defence Secretary Announces Increased Ammunition Production and WWR Expansion
At the NDTV Defence Summit, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh announced a plan to boost India’s military readiness by increasing small arms ammunition production and doubling the war wastage reserves (WWR) to 300 million rounds. This initiative, set to invite private sector involvement through public-private partnerships, aims to ensure self-sufficiency and address supply chain vulnerabilities highlighted by recent operations. The move supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and aligns with the goal of achieving 75% indigenous content in defense procurement by 2027. Enhanced reserves will be strategically located to meet potential threats from both Pakistan and China, thereby strengthening India’s defense posture.
