Defence and Culture Ministries MoU for INSV Kaundinya Project

The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Stitched Ship Project, INSV Kaundinya, aimed at reviving India’s ancient maritime craftsmanship. The traditional wooden vessel will be constructed using the indigenous “stitched ship” technique and is set to retrace historical trade routes to Oman later this year under the Indian Navy’s management. Concurrently, the Indian Navy’s indigenous stealth frigate INS Satpura visited Colombo, enhancing bilateral naval ties with Sri Lanka through various cooperative activities. These initiatives underscore India’s commitment to preserving its maritime heritage while strengthening regional security partnerships, reflecting the government’s strategic focus on cultural diplomacy and maritime collaboration in the Indian Ocean.
