DAC Approves ₹5,150 Cr Dharashakti EW System for Army Modernization

The Defence Acquisition Council has approved a ₹5,150 crore procurement for the indigenously developed Dharashakti Integrated Electronic Warfare system to strengthen Army operations in desert and plain sectors, particularly sensitive border belts. Dharashakti is a dual-segment ground-based EW suite with separate communication (COM) and non-communication (Non-COM) modules designed for wideband radio-frequency interception, electronic support measures, and active countermeasures including signal jamming and deception. Field reports and industry descriptions attribute advanced features such as AESA/DRFM-class jamming capability to record, alter and replay radar signatures, wideband electronic support/attack (ESM/ECM) functionality to detect and classify emitters, and high-resolution electro-optical sensors for battlefield surveillance. The system is reported capable of degrading airborne early warning and control systems, fighter radars, SAR imaging and encrypted comms, and includes anti-UAV and navigation/GPS disruption effects for tactical denial. Procured under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) route, the order underscores a push for self-reliant EW capability and forward deployable electronic dominance to protect manoeuvre forces and critical nodes across contested plains and desert theatres.
