CVRDE Seeks Indian Firms for 1500 HP MBT Engine Development

The Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the development of a 1500 HP diesel engine, the CV1500A, aimed at enhancing India’s Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) within the Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) program. This initiative encourages Indian manufacturers to participate in the entire production and testing process, thereby fostering domestic capabilities and reducing foreign dependencies. The engine design emphasizes robustness, efficiency, and integration with advanced subsystems, crucial for modern armored warfare. As India seeks to replace aging T-72s and Arjuns, this move underscores the strategic shift towards self-reliance, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and enhancing India’s defense posture against regional adversaries.
