CVRDE and Ashok Leyland finalize design for advanced 800 HP Zorawar tank engine.
The Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) has partnered with Ashok Leyland to develop an advanced 800 HP engine for the Zorawar Light Tank, aimed at enhancing India’s armored capabilities in high-altitude terrains. The design phase is complete, with a focus on delivering a compact engine that balances power and agility, featuring an 8-cylinder V90 layout optimized for battlefield conditions. This engine is expected to propel the Zorawar beyond 70 km/h while effectively maneuvering in challenging environments, addressing the need for superior performance against adversary forces. The development aligns with India’s strategic focus on modernizing its defense capabilities and supporting indigenous defense manufacturing, thus reinforcing national security in contested regions.
