Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is spearheading the Indian Navy’s modernization drive, focusing on the re-engineering of aging Brahmaputra-class frigates to extend their operational life amid increasing maritime tensions in the Indian Ocean Region. Chairman Madhu S Nair highlighted CSL’s robust role in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul ecosystem, emphasizing a move towards self-reliance in naval sustainment. The program includes significant upgrades with indigenous technologies and a broader push worth ₹5,000 crore for mid-life refits. Furthermore, CSL is advancing projects for new vessels, including Anti-Submarine Warfare corvettes and Next-Generation Missile Vessels, reflecting India’s commitment to boosting indigenous warship production and enhancing maritime security capabilities. This initiative underscores India’s strategic focus on naval preparedness and self-sufficiency in defense.
