CATS Warrior UCAV first flight delayed to 2027, HAL confirms.

HAL Chairman DK Sunil announced that the first flight of the CATS Warrior UCAV, initially set for 2026, has been postponed to 2027 due to complexities in flight-control software and weapons integration. While ground testing has progressed well, integration challenges and the need for advanced systems testing—especially in light of lessons learned from Ukraine—have contributed to the delay. The CATS Warrior is envisioned to enhance India’s autonomous combat capabilities, complementing existing manned aircraft like the TEJAS MK-1A and Su-30MKI. Additionally, a future 5-tonne variant, CATS Warrior II, is anticipated to enter testing between 2028 and 2031, marking significant advancements in India’s defense strategy and operational readiness.
