BrahMos missile tests underway, aiming for 800 km range by 2027.

India is rapidly enhancing its defense prowess with the development of an upgraded BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, extending its range to 800 kilometers, expected to be combat-ready by 2027. The missile features a modernized ramjet engine and a hybrid navigation system designed to maintain accuracy amid potential jamming. Tests are in progress to validate these advancements. The Indian Air Force is scaling up its BrahMos capacity by equipping 20 more Sukhoi Su-30MKI jets at HAL Nashik, following the success of the missile in Operation Sindoor in May 2025, which showcased its precision strike capability deep into enemy territory. This expanded arsenal will enhance the IAF’s long-range strike and standoff abilities, crucial amid ongoing tensions with China along the Line of Actual Control and threats from Pakistan. Additionally, BrahMos’ export appeal grows, with deals progressing in countries like the Philippines and Vietnam, reflecting India’s strategic defense diplomacy and manufacturing strength.
