BEML Launches Advanced Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle
BEML has unveiled and commenced assembly of its fully indigenous Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle (LAMV), a 4×4 platform with switchable 4×2 mode, powered by a 450 HP diesel engine and automatic transmission, aimed at reconnaissance and support roles across desert to high‑altitude terrains. The 13‑ton GVW LAMV targets STANAG 4569 ballistic and blast protection levels, integrating run‑flat tyres and provisions for central tyre inflation to enhance mobility and survivability. Early materials indicate a four‑seat layout, high ground clearance, and on‑road cruising range claims, while procurement papers list powertrain ratios and torque benchmarks around 1,590 Nm for the configuration under evaluation. Assembly at Kolar Gold Fields precedes Indian Army trials, including Eastern Ladakh, aligning with Atmanirbhar Bharat and signaling a capability boost for Recce & Support Battalions.
