Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has partnered with France’s Safran Electronics and Defence to manufacture the HAMMER precision-guided weapon system in India, marking a significant advance in the country’s defense indigenisation efforts. This collaboration aims to localize production and maintenance of the combat-proven weapon, enhancing the Indian Air Force’s air-to-ground strike capabilities and aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The joint venture is set to achieve a 60% indigenisation level, thereby reducing reliance on imports and promoting job creation while positioning India as a potential net exporter of advanced munitions by 2030. This strategic move is particularly relevant amidst ongoing regional security challenges, as India seeks to modernize its defense forces and expand its operational capabilities.
