Baaz Drone: India's Indigenous Solution for Enhanced Military Surveillance
At the Inno-Yoddha 2025 exhibition in New Delhi’s Manekshaw Centre, the Indian Army transferred technology for the indigenous Baaz Attack Drone—developed by retired Colonel Vikas Chaturvedi—to private firms, alongside four other innovations like Exploder, Agniastra, Vidyut Rakshak, and a multi-purpose octacopter. This multi-weapon UAS, with a 20 km range, 50+ kg payload capacity, and abilities for rocket launches, grenade drops, surveillance, counter-insurgency, and logistics in high-altitude areas up to 14,000 ft, costs far less than imports while filling critical gaps in tactical firepower. From an Indian strategic lens, the move accelerates self-reliance amid border tensions with China and Pakistan, enhances combat edge through private sector scaling, and counters adversary drone swarms, positioning India as a UAV innovation leader.
