Azerbaijan acquires nine JF-17 Block 3 jets, shifting from Pakistan.

Azerbaijan has officially inducted five JF-17 Block III fighter jets from Pakistan, marking a significant boost to its airpower amid regional tensions. This milestone was publicly demonstrated on November 8, 2025, during Azerbaijan’s Victory Day parade. The acquisition stems from a $1.6 billion contract signed on February 22, 2024, which was later expanded to a $4.6 billion deal for 40 jets, making it Pakistan’s largest defense export. The JF-17 Block III, equipped with AESA radar, PL-15E long-range missiles, and advanced avionics, enhances Azerbaijan’s operational readiness and complements its existing MiG-29 and Su-25 fleets. The delivery signals deeper defense cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, with Pakistan focusing on developing more advanced platforms like J-10CE and J-35A, facilitating the reallocation of JF-17s. These jets are expected to be based at Nasosnaya Air Base, representing a strategic shift in regional air power balance and increased deterrence capability for Azerbaijan.
