Astra Microwave Products Limited has achieved a significant milestone by developing an indigenous shipborne radar, enhancing India’s self-reliance in defense technology under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This Long-Range Multi-Function Radar (LRMFR), capable of detecting threats over 400 km, will replace imported systems in the Indian Navy, thereby increasing operational sovereignty and contributing to the goal of achieving 70% indigenous content by 2027. With its advanced capabilities, including tracking multiple targets and integration with the Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile system, this radar addresses emerging maritime challenges, particularly from China’s expanding naval presence, thereby bolstering India’s defense posture in the Indo-Pacific region.
