AMCA's Redesigned IRST Enhances Stealth and Sensor Efficiency

The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), India’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, has undergone a design update enhancing its Infrared Search and Track (IRST) housing, now centrally aligned for better stealth and sensor efficiency. This redesign improves aerodynamic performance and reduces radar cross-section, crucial for operations in contested environments. Integrated with advanced avionics and sensor systems, the AMCA is poised for both air superiority and precision strike missions, with first flight expected by 2027-28. The program emphasizes indigenous development, aiming for over 70% local sourcing of components, reflecting India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense technology.
