Airbus Spain is set to convert six A321 aircraft into Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) for the Indian Air Force (IAF), enhancing India’s airborne surveillance capabilities. This initiative is part of India’s broader strategy to expand its surveillance fleet beyond existing systems by integrating advanced indigenous technology. The modifications will include structural reinforcements and the installation of DRDO-developed radar systems, with the first two aircraft expected to be operational by 2030.
