Airbus to convert six A321s into AWACS for Indian Air Force.

Airbus Spain is set to convert six A321 aircraft into Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) for the Indian Air Force (IAF), enhancing India’s airborne surveillance capabilities. This initiative is part of India’s broader strategy to expand its surveillance fleet beyond existing systems by integrating advanced indigenous technology. The modifications will include structural reinforcements and the installation of DRDO-developed radar systems, with the first two aircraft expected to be operational by 2030. This advancement is crucial for improving India’s 360-degree radar coverage and early detection capabilities across various theaters, ultimately reinforcing India’s defense modernization goals and bolstering national security in a complex geopolitical landscape.
