Approximately 16,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are playing a pivotal role in enhancing India’s indigenous defence capabilities, contributing to a remarkable increase in defence production, which reached Rs 1.54 lakh crore in FY25 and is projected to hit Rs 1.75 lakh crore in the current fiscal year. The government’s commitment to bolstering military infrastructure is evident from the rise in the defence budget from Rs 2.53 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 6.81 lakh crore by 2025-26. Policy reforms, including streamlined acquisition procedures and a significant Research, Development and Innovation scheme, support the aim of reaching Rs 3 lakh crore in defence production by 2029. Additionally, India’s defence exports have expanded to over 100 countries, further establishing the nation as a global defence manufacturing hub.
