Surat identified as India's malware capital, highlighting urgent cybersecurity needs.
Surat has emerged as a significant hub for malware attacks in India, according to the “India Cyber Threat Report 2025” by DSCI and Seqrite. The city accounted for 14.6% of the 369 million malware detections reported nationwide, highlighting vulnerabilities due to rapid digitalization in manufacturing, limited cybersecurity budgets among SMEs, and a shortage of trained IT personnel. The report noted an alarming 69.3 threats per device in Surat, which surpassed traditional tech centers like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. This trend underscores the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, as attackers increasingly target regions with lower defensive capabilities, posing a threat to India’s digital economy and national security infrastructure.
