Srinagar DM suspends VPN services for two months over security concerns.

The District Magistrate of Srinagar has suspended all Virtual Private Network (VPN) services in the district for two months, citing public order and cyber security concerns. This decision, enacted under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, aims to prevent misuse of VPNs for unlawful activities that could disrupt peace and safety. Authorities believe VPNs could facilitate the incitement of unrest and hinder law enforcement’s ability to monitor and investigate effectively. The suspension reflects the administration’s proactive approach to maintaining stability and security in a region with heightened concerns, underscoring the critical balance between technology use and public safety in contemporary governance.
