SC directs MHA, CBI to devise plan against organized cyber-crime.

India’s Supreme Court has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to formulate a comprehensive action plan aimed at dismantling organized cyber-crime syndicates that exploit citizens, particularly vulnerable elderly individuals, through tactics such as “digital arrest” extortion. The court underscored the rising sophistication and scale of cybercrime, warning that such activities could severely undermine public trust and disrupt critical infrastructure. This development highlights the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures and collaborative efforts among law enforcement agencies to safeguard citizens and maintain the integrity of digital ecosystems in India. The Supreme Court’s intervention reflects a proactive stance in addressing emerging threats in cyberspace, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable populations.
