India's GPS interference NOTAM signals escalation in electromagnetic warfare near Mumbai.

India has issued successive NOTAMs warning of GPS interference or signal loss over critical airspaces in Delhi, Mumbai, and most recently Kolkata, from November 6 through 17, 2025. These alerts follow disruptions in aviation navigation caused by advanced GPS spoofing and jamming, prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to mandate real-time reporting of anomalies within 10 minutes. The incidents, under investigation by the National Security Advisor’s office and the Indian Air Force, signify a marked escalation in electromagnetic warfare against India, reflecting coordinated attempts to undermine national security and aviation safety across major metropolitan and strategic zones. This evolving challenge intersects with India’s broader efforts to enhance electronic warfare capabilities, including advanced signal intelligence systems, as part of its multi-domain defense preparedness. The GPS interference acts as a warning of grey-zone tactics by adversaries, necessitating heightened vigilance and fortified resilience in India’s electromagnetic spectrum defenses.
