India demonstrates 500-km quantum network for secure communications, enhancing cybersecurity.
A Bengaluru-based startup, in collaboration with the Indian Army, has successfully demonstrated India’s first extensive Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) network over a distance of 500 km, marking a significant advancement in secure digital communications and cybersecurity. This QKD network utilizes quantum mechanics principles to securely share cryptographic keys, ensuring enhanced protection against eavesdropping and future quantum attacks. The Indian Army’s Southern Command played a crucial role in this achievement, facilitating the optical fibre network required for the trial. Supported under the National Quantum Mission, this milestone positions India as a leader in the quantum revolution, furthering self-reliance in technology and strengthening the defense sector’s digital infrastructure, thereby enhancing national security capabilities.
