DoT Enhances Telecom Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection Initiatives

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India is ramping up efforts to enhance cybersecurity and consumer protection amid rising cyber fraud cases, which reportedly amounted to around ₹2,500 crore last year. Anand Khare, Advisor (Operations) at DoT, announced initiatives like the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator, designed to warn consumers of potential fraud when making transactions. Additionally, the Sanchar Saarthi app has been launched to allow users to report scams directly to the DoT. These measures underscore the government’s commitment to safeguarding telecom users and building a more resilient infrastructure, reflecting a proactive stance against increasing cyber threats which pose significant challenges to consumer safety and trust in digital transactions.
