Cybercriminals exploit Outlook and Gmail, increasing email threat risks significantly.

The Q3 2025 Email Threat Trends Report from VIPRE reveals a significant 13% year-over-year rise in detected malicious emails, primarily driven by credential-harvesting campaigns targeting Outlook and Gmail, which account for over 90% of phishing attempts. Researchers identified more than 234 million spam messages, with attackers increasingly using social engineering tactics, including impersonation of executives, to facilitate Business Email Compromise (BEC). Notably, the majority of attacks rely on malicious links and AI-generated content to bypass traditional email security measures. This evolving threat landscape underscores the urgent need for organizations to adopt advanced security measures, including behavioral analysis and AI-powered detection, to safeguard against sophisticated cybercriminal tactics.
