China's new smishing campaign targets global users through SMS phishing.

A new sophisticated phishing campaign, dubbed the Smishing Triad, has emerged from China, targeting users globally through SMS. This extensive operation has identified over 194,000 domains linked to phishing schemes that impersonate various sectors, including banking and healthcare. Analysts from Palo Alto Networks noted the attackers’ use of sophisticated social engineering tactics and a Phishing-as-a-Service ecosystem, involving roles from data brokers to SMS spammers. The campaign’s rapid domain cycling and decentralized infrastructure highlight a significant threat, necessitating heightened cybersecurity vigilance. This development underscores the growing complexity of cyber threats, emphasizing the urgent need for robust defenses and international cooperation in cybersecurity efforts, particularly for nations like India, which face similar challenges in safeguarding their digital landscape.
