PM Modi praises commissioning of ICGS Samudra Pratap, enhancing India's maritime security and capabilities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently hailed the commissioning of the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap, marking a significant milestone in India’s maritime journey and enhancing the nation’s security and maritime capabilities. Constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited, this pollution control vessel is the largest in the Indian Coast Guard fleet and features over 60% indigenous content, showcasing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense. With a weight of 4,170 tons and a length of 114.5 meters, the ICGS Samudra Pratap is equipped with advanced pollution control equipment, including high-capacity skimmers and a dedicated pollution control laboratory. It also includes modern systems for dynamic positioning and integrated management, as well as armament capabilities with a 30mm gun and firefighting systems. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the vessel’s multi-functional capabilities, which will bolster coastal patrol and maritime safety, while also noting the historic inclusion of two women officers aboard. The commissioning of ICGS Samudra Pratap signifies India’s proactive approach to enhancing its maritime security infrastructure and environmental responsibility amidst evolving maritime challenges.
