HAL Enhances Tejas Mk1A Production via Private Sector Collaboration

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is enhancing the production of its Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft by integrating private sector companies into its manufacturing process, establishing an “invisible fourth production line” to increase annual output to 24-30 aircraft. This outsourcing model allows HAL to focus on final integration while private firms manage airframe production, crucial for modernizing the Indian Air Force’s aging fleet. Furthermore, HAL plans to expand this collaboration for the more advanced Tejas Mk2, reflecting a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defense manufacturing under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. This strategic partnership is poised to streamline production and bolster India’s defense capabilities.
