Safran's AMCA engine confirmed scalable to 140 kN for future variants.
Safran CEO Olivier Andries has confirmed that the new turbofan engine being co-developed with India’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) will feature a scalable thrust range of 120-140 kN, paving the way for a heavier variant of the aircraft. The 140 kN version aims to support increased payload, enhanced firepower, and advanced systems, crucial for achieving supercruise capabilities. While the engine will initially focus on fifth-generation requirements, its modular design allows for future upgrades towards sixth-generation technologies. This development significantly strengthens India’s indigenous fighter ecosystem, establishing a sovereign industrial capability that will support advanced combat aircraft over the coming decades.
