Congress critiques government's ineffective handling of U.S.-India relations amid Trump's tariff threats.

The Congress party criticized the Indian government’s approach to U.S.-India relations following President Donald Trump’s remarks about potential tariff increases on Indian imports due to India’s continued purchase of Russian oil. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted that despite high-profile events like “Namaste Trump” and “Howdy Modi,” these gestures have not yielded significant benefits, as Trump indicated he was not pleased with India’s actions. Trump’s statement, made during a flight back to Washington, underlined the U.S. administration’s tough stance on India, especially as bipartisan pressure mounts in Congress to impose sanctions related to Russian oil imports, potentially impacting India’s economy and trade relations. This situation raises concerns about the future of U.S.-India ties amid geopolitical tensions.
