Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Sattar Hashemi, announced that the country successfully thwarted one of the largest cyberattacks on its telecommunications infrastructure, which involved over 120,000 global sources. The attack, characterized as a significant distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) event, peaked at 720 million packets per second. Hashemi highlighted the effectiveness of both domestic and international defensive measures, which prevented potential disruptions that could have severely impacted communications.
