Lavrov asserts Taiwan is part of China, criticizing Western support for independence.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated that Taiwan is an integral part of China, asserting that the issue is an internal matter for Beijing. He criticized international discussions around Taiwan for being detached from reality and highlighted how Western nations, while publicly supporting the One-China policy, engage in practices that undermine it, particularly through military support for Taiwan. Lavrov’s remarks reflect Russia’s strategic partnership with China, aimed at countering perceived Western hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region. For India, these developments underscore the complexity of maintaining relations with both Russia and key players in the Indo-Pacific, amid rising tensions in cross-strait relations.
