Abandoned drone found in J&K's Poonch highlights security concerns.

On December 29, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group recovered an unidentified drone abandoned in a field at Gohled village in Poonch’s sensitive Mendhar sector near the LoC, prompting probes into potential espionage links despite claims it might be civilian gear used for events. Concurrently, security forces found an AK assault rifle magazine with seven rounds in an open field at Sudhmahadev, Chenani area of Udhampur district, with no arrests yet, while the Indian Army seized a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)-marked aircraft-shaped balloon in Gurah Manhasa village, Akhnoor sector’s Pragwal area, likely wind-drifted from across the border. These incidents within 24 hours heighten India’s border vigilance, signaling Pakistan-backed cross-LoC drone incursions and arms smuggling threats amid ongoing proxy activities, demanding enhanced counter-drone tech and intelligence coordination.
