Indian Coast Guard partners with L&T for six indigenous helicopter systems.
The Indian Coast Guard has formalized a contract with L&T Precision Engineering & Systems for six Rail-Less Helicopter Traversing Systems (RLHTS) to be installed on Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to enhance indigenous defense production. This innovative RLHTS enables safe helicopter operations without fixed deck rails, utilizing advanced winches and sensors to facilitate movement in challenging maritime conditions. Designed for helicopters weighing up to 12.5 tonnes, the system significantly bolsters the Coast Guard’s operational capabilities and underscores India’s commitment to developing critical defense technologies domestically. This development is pivotal for improving maritime aviation efficiency and exemplifies the ongoing efforts towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
