Indian Army to establish a massive tactical drone force by 2027, deploying 8,000-10,000 UAVs per corps.

The Indian Army is set to establish one of the world’s largest tactical drone forces by 2027, aiming to deploy between 8,000 to 10,000 drones per corps, enhancing battlefield capabilities significantly. This initiative focuses on integrating unmanned systems for surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strike operations, ensuring soldiers remain out of harm’s way. The plan emphasizes indigenous technology and self-reliance, fostering the development of domestically produced UAVs and counter-drone systems. Additionally, specialized training for all soldiers in drone operations is a key element, aimed at embedding drone proficiency as a core military skill, thereby transforming the Army’s operational doctrine and capabilities for future warfare.
