Army jawan dies in raft capsizing during Teesta river training.

An Army jawan, Lance Naik Rajasekhar of the 191 Artillery Regiment, tragically lost his life when a raft capsized during a training exercise in the Teesta river in Sikkim’s Pakyong district. The accident occurred amidst an annual rafting training program when the raft struck a damaged bridge structure, leading to the soldier being swept away. Immediate rescue operations were launched by the Army in collaboration with the Teesta Rescue Centre, and the body was later recovered downstream in Kalimpong district. This incident underscores the inherent risks associated with military training exercises and highlights the need for continuous assessment of training environments to ensure the safety of personnel.
