Lockheed Martin plans phased C-130J manufacturing in India if selected for IAF needs.
Lockheed Martin has proposed a phased manufacturing transition for its C-130J Super Hercules aircraft in India, contingent on its selection for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Medium Transport Aircraft programme. The initial batch would be assembled in the U.S. to meet immediate requirements, with future production shifting to a dedicated facility in India, aligning with the government’s “Make in India” initiative. This proposal also includes the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center in Bengaluru, aimed at reducing reliance on foreign support and enhancing local industrial capabilities. Ultimately, this collaboration marks a significant step towards self-reliance in India’s defense sector, providing long-term strategic benefits for the IAF and the domestic defense industry.
