The Indian Navy’s INS Sindhughosh, the lead submarine of its class, was officially decommissioned on December 19, 2025, after an impressive 40 years of service, as announced by the Western Naval Command. The ceremony took place at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, attended by notable figures including Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, and several distinguished guests, including former and current naval officers and veterans who once served on the submarine. Commanded by Lieutenant Commander Rajat Sharma at the time of decommissioning, INS Sindhughosh has played a significant role in the Indian Navy’s operations over the decades, marking a pivotal transition as the navy continues to modernize its fleet.
