Safran and GTRE to co-develop advanced engine for AMCA Mk2 with sixth-gen technology.

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has reached a significant milestone in its quest for indigenous aero-engine capability by finalizing a partnership with French aerospace giant Safran to co-develop a next-generation engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Mk2. This new engine, designed to fit the dimensions of the existing F414, will combine the reliability of the M88 T-REX with cutting-edge sixth-generation technologies, ensuring a seamless transition for the Indian Air Force. The project includes a 100% transfer of technology, enabling India to manufacture advanced heat-resistant components domestically. With ambitious thrust targets and high-performance capabilities, this development is poised to enhance India’s air superiority and establish foundational expertise in jet engine design, a crucial aspect of modern defense aviation.
