Aadhaar's multi-layered security ensures no data breaches to date.
On December 17, 2025, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha that the Aadhaar system, serving approximately 134 crore users as the world’s largest biometric identity program, has recorded no data breaches from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) database to date. This statement underscores India’s robust digital infrastructure, with UIDAI employing a multi-layered “defence-in-depth” security framework, advanced encryption for data transmission and storage, and continuous cybersecurity audits by the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre. Having processed over 16,000 crore authentication transactions, Aadhaar exemplifies the government’s proactive commitment to protecting citizens’ personal information amid rising global cyber threats.
