Two arrested after gunshots cause panic at Bondi Beach, Sydney.

Australian police arrested 24-year-old Naveed Akram following a mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on December 14, 2025, during a Hanukkah celebration attended by hundreds, including families and children. The attack killed at least 15 people, including two officers and a minor, and injured around 40 others, with gunmen firing from a footbridge using licensed firearms owned by Naveed’s father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, who was shot dead by police at the scene. Eyewitness videos captured panic as crowds fled amid gunfire and sirens, while a bystander heroically disarmed one assailant, potentially saving lives. Authorities recovered ISIS flags from a suspects’ vehicle and two active improvised explosive devices, labeling it a terrorist incident targeting the Jewish event. Naveed, a Pakistani-origin resident of Bonnyrigg previously known to law enforcement, studied at Central Queensland University in Sydney, Hamdard University in Islamabad, and Al Murad Institute in Pakistan, where he was noted as an exemplary student, prompting investigations into potential radicalization links there. Police raided family properties in Campsie and Bonnyrigg, seizing additional weapons, but found no prior plot evidence.
